  Mrs Piertege (70) never saw any morris in this village

  Wheatley (Oxan)
  Mrs Edwin Thomas (78) remembers Wheatley Morris very well. Only survivors are Gomme at Hater and Jack and Ted Thomas now at [Chalgrove] or Stadhampton -another one living somewhere about Maidenhead. A man of the name of Gomme used to come from [Hater] to play fife and drum- died many years ago

  William and Henry James Hemmings two dancers still alive, 73 and 67 respectively, the former William, now blind. Arranged to see them dance tomorrow evening at 5:30

  Kirtlington Oxon (pronounced Kirtleton)
  William Pearman (66) son of Robert Pearman, foreman of side and one of 4 brothers who used to dance. He gave me several steps and movements and 3 tunes.

  Foot up 2 bars 4/3 going forward, hackleback and jump, back to place - this repeated.
  [Kick Corner]- 2 bars s.s (arms up each side) 1 bar hackle one bar together [jump] & kick.

  Cross Corners ordinary steps to meet opposite corner ana then caper back to place ( then afterwards appeared to be a [?] cross corner)

  He also did caper corners thus
  One long step forward, feet together, kick jump, feet together raising and falling on toes
  usual arms bent swing up & down keeping elbow joint at right angle.
  They had no galley
  Capered out facing up at finish
  In Half hands nos. 1 & 2 began by [?] in first four bars, met side by side without passing and returned to places. This then repeated by all six  in second four bars.
  Pearman danced extraordinarily well, very lyth with and excellent morris step

  In the hackle he turned his ankles in as in the hop back steps and [?] them, swinging five by out to the side, no sway of body, or very little.

  The regular annual morris came to an end about 50 years ago. William danced in a short revival started a few years later and lasting only 2 or 3  time, His father taught him.

   

  Sept 22  Kidlington Oxan
  Dancing [ceased ?] 60 or 70 years ago, No one now living who danced it, nor are there and sons of the old dancers in the village.

   

  Sept 24 Charlbury Oxon
  Mr Lamer remembers morris as Ascott and at Fieldtown but there was never a Chalbury morris. He has lived in Chalbury 65 years and danced at Ascott. He is well over 80 - his wife nearly 90 - used to put on the bells
