The Simple (Whistling) Plough- boy

It's of a pretty plough boy that was ploughing in the plain
His horses were standing in the [shade]
Twas down in yonder grove he went a whistling to his plough
When he chanced t meet a pretty maid

And this was his song as he walked along
Pretty maid if I with you agree
And we would fall in love, and your parents they should know
Then the next thing they'll sent me to the sea, to the sea. etc

So when her [aged] parents came for to know
Pretty William was a ploughing in the plain
The press gang they came & pressed him away
And sent him to the war to be slain

So the the fair young damsel [dressed all into her best]
Her pockets were lined with gold
She went walking through the street with a tear in her eye
In search of her jolly sailor bold

The first that she met was a jolly sailor bold
Where is my pretty ploughboy she cried
He's first across the deep & sailing with the fleet
So he said [oh my] pretty maid will [ever ride] ?

So then she rowed to the ship her love was in
And onto the Captain complained
Saying I am ever t [?] my pretty ploughboy
That was sent t the wars t be slain

Then a handful of bright sovereigns, she fully pulled out
And all of them then counted all over
Then she caught her pretty ploughboy and [wyed/ weighed] him in her arms
She [wiged/weighed] him till she got him safe on shore

And when she had her ploughboy safe into her arms
Where often times he had a been before
She set the bells to ring and so sweetly did sing
Because she had met with the lad she adored
